Nicușor Dan, the mayor of Bucharest, discussed the importance of balance in increasing the minimum wage in Romania. He emphasized that, although he would like higher minimum wages, it is necessary to take into account the economy's capacity to support these increases.

Increasing the minimum wage could lead to many companies exiting the market, generating unemployment for employees who would prefer to stay with their current wages rather than becoming unemployed. Dan mentioned that an increase in the minimum wage could destabilize certain economic sectors, thus affecting state budget revenues, including health contributions. Without these increases, Romania could lose approximately two billion lei from the budget.
