Geert Wilders, the leader of the Freedom Party (PVV), acknowledged on Tuesday the defeat in the early legislative elections, in which D66, led by Rob Jetten, won by a margin of 28,000 votes. Although he accused electoral irregularities, Wilders congratulated the new leader, who could become the youngest prime minister of the Netherlands and the first openly gay one. Wilders, known for his eurosceptic and anti-immigration positions, conceded to the formation of a governing coalition but withdrew his party from the government in June, prompting early elections. The formation of the new executive will require complex negotiations between parties with diverse ideologies, and D66, VVD, CDA, and Greens/Labour are possible components of a coalition.
