New anti-drone systems are being tested in Constanța to protect military ports

New anti-drone systems are being tested in Constanța and are expected to become operational by the end of the year to protect military and commercial ports on the Black Sea and the Danube. The equipment can detect, identify, classify, and neutralize both aerial drones and marine drones.

The systems are currently being tested in Constanța, before being installed at four military ports: Constanța, Mangalia, Tulcea, and Brăila. They will cover the airspace, the water’s surface, and the underwater area in the vicinity of the protected facilities.

The acquisition of the equipment was completed following a procedure that lasted several months, while installation is scheduled for the coming period. The new systems’ distinctive feature is that they will be able to respond in an integrated manner to threats originating from the air and water, including by neutralizing drones.

Once operational, the equipment will contribute to defending port infrastructure on NATO’s eastern flank and protecting southeastern Romania.
