A fire broke out on Wednesday evening at the locomotive of a train traveling on the Râmnicu Vâlcea–Sibiu route, in the area of railway kilometer 343+400 m, between the stations Cornet and Câineni, Vâlcea County. According to the Romanian Police Traffic Center, the incident caused significant smoke emissions, but all passengers were safely evacuated without any injuries.
Following the fire, rail traffic was suspended on both tracks, and road traffic on DN 7 was temporarily halted in the area of Câineni to allow emergency crews to intervene. Authorities estimate that traffic will resume after 8:00 PM. The rapid intervention of firefighters and rescue teams helped avoid more serious incidents and protect the passengers.
