A truck caught fire Wednesday morning on DN 7, in the area of Dedulești, Argeș County, and traffic between Pitești and Râmnicu Vâlcea was blocked for several hours. Both the vehicle and its cargo were completely destroyed by the fire.
Three firefighting vehicles and an SMURD ambulance for advanced first aid responded at the scene, representatives of the Argeș Emergency Situations Inspectorate said. The truck driver did not require medical attention.
According to preliminary findings, the fire may have been caused by a thermal effect, namely heat produced through contact or radiation. Police have opened a criminal investigation for negligent destruction and are continuing their checks under the supervision of a prosecutor to establish all the circumstances.
During the intervention, the Infotraffic Center announced that traffic was being diverted. Vehicles heading toward Râmnicu Vâlcea were redirected from Bascov onto DN 7C, while those heading toward Pitești were redirected from Vărzaru onto DJ 678A.
