A car caught fire on DN5, in the area of Daia, Giurgiu County, on the lane heading toward Bucharest. The fire broke out on a bridge and temporarily blocked traffic while firefighters intervened. No injuries were reported.
The driver noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment, pulled over and got out of the car. Shortly afterward, the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Several motorists attempted to extinguish the fire but were unable to put it out.
Firefighters had difficulty reaching the scene because traffic toward Bucharest was blocked. Police assisted the crew to facilitate access. When firefighters arrived, approximately 90% of the car was ablaze.
According to the initial information provided by the Giurgiu County Emergency Situations Inspectorate, the probable cause of the fire was a short circuit. Authorities recommend regularly checking the electrical system, ventilation and heating systems, as well as any possible fuel or lubricant leaks. Drivers are advised to avoid makeshift repairs and check that their car fire extinguisher is valid.
