More than 11,000 DAN AIR passengers were left with canceled reservations, even though they had paid for their tickets, after payment processor NETOPIA allegedly withheld the airline’s proceeds. DAN AIR claims that the blocked amount exceeds 1.3 million euros and recommends that customers request a refund.

According to the company, NETOPIA allegedly began withholding proceeds from ticket sales on October 23, 2026. Of the total, more than 930,000 euros represent ticket payments, while approximately 440,000 euros are deposits. On November 2, the processor allegedly unilaterally terminated the contract without notice.

DAN AIR states that, since the passengers’ money was not transferred to the carrier, the payments remained incomplete and the reservations were canceled for nonpayment. The company claims that it continued operating for 14 days using its own funds, including with the support of employees who allegedly covered operational costs.

Passengers are advised to request a refund directly from NETOPIA or through the chargeback procedure with the bank that issued the card. Requests must include the reservation code, payment date, and amount paid. Customers may also file a complaint with ANPC. DAN AIR links the processor’s decision to recent problems in the airline industry, but maintains that it intends to reorganize and continue its operations.

Context: before the incident with the reservations, Dan Air had already entered the insolvency area and temporarily moved its flights from Bacău

Previously, Dan Air officially requested entry into insolvency, submitting the application to the Ilfov Tribunal for protection from creditors; the court had not yet set a hearing date, and the company maintained that the procedure would not affect its flight schedule.

At the same time, the dispute with “George Enescu” Airport in Bacău escalated: the airport administration allegedly requested the opening of insolvency proceedings against the company and made the continuation of handling services conditional on additional payments. As a result, DAN AIR announced the temporary relocation of all flights from Bacău to “Henri Coandă” Airport in Bucharest, starting on November 4, 2026.

Beyond the operational conflict, the company was presented as having increasing debts in its balance sheets: 126.3 million lei for 2025, compared with 90 million lei in 2024, according to the cited source, while the company also stated that it had submitted its own reorganization application.
