Eugen Rădulescu, BNR advisor, harshly criticized the proposal to increase the price of subway tickets, stating that the solution does not lie in raising tariffs, but in improving the management of public resources. In a published analysis on Contributors, he describes the situation at the subway as an example of a broader problem of 'rent extraction' from the state economy, where losses are borne by citizens, while internal irregularities remain unaddressed. Rădulescu argues that increasing the price of tickets, even up to 10 lei, will not resolve the underlying causes of the problems, but will transfer the burden onto travelers. He warns that without measures against those responsible for inefficiencies, any tariff increase will have a limited impact and will affect the living standards of the population. Rădulescu emphasizes the risk that Romania will remain stuck in a system where citizens pay more for increasingly poor public services, while structural problems persist.
