Metrorex, the company that manages the Bucharest metro, is facing a new financial scandal after the interim Minister of Transport, Radu Miruță, decided to extend the mission of the Control Body. This comes following information that Metrorex has not paid its electricity bill for approximately three months, accumulating arrears of 1 million euros per month.

Metrorex responds to the accusations, emphasizing that the state has outstanding financial obligations to the company, estimating that it should receive one billion lei. Additionally, the company reported losses of over 312 million lei for the year 2025, citing the underfunding of public transport services.

Radu Miruță criticized the way money is spent in the company and suspended a proposal to increase fares, insisting that Metrorex must recover debts before requesting additional funds. The Control Body will now investigate the source of the arrears and the financial management efficiency of Metrorex.
