The interim Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Radu Miruță, stated that the metro fare will remain 5 lei, thus canceling the order that provided for an increase to 7 lei starting July 1. The decision comes after a two-month suspension of fare increases, and Miruță emphasized the financial problems of Metrorex, mentioning that actions are underway to recover penalties for delays amounting to tens of millions of euros. He stated that, in the event a new minister wishes to increase the fare, they will have to go through a more complex process. Miruță concluded by emphasizing that the issue of fare increases is closed and that there will be no further discussions about delays.
"It is not acceptable to keep postponing something that is clearly unjustified month after month. That is why I decided to cancel the increase of the metro ticket from 5 to 7 lei. The issue of postponement is no longer on the table; I have definitively closed this subject. The metro fare will not increase now, nor in the immediate future. If a new minister comes who wants to make a bad decision for the people and raise the metro fare without recovering the funds that Metrorex needs from other sources, they will have a much longer road to travel," said Miruță.
