55 local elected officials and public servants will be affected by the new provisions of the ANI Law, which impose the cessation of mandates for incompatibilities and conflicts of interest.

The National Integrity Agency (ANI) has announced that 55 individuals, including 10 mayors and 17 councilors, will lose their public positions following the entry into force of the new provisions of Law no. 180/2026. These individuals continue to hold positions despite being found incompatible, having conflicts of interest, or possessing unjustified wealth, and the three-year ban has not expired.

According to the new regulations, their mandates will automatically cease 30 days after the law is applied. ANI will verify whether the individuals in question have effectively left their positions, and non-compliance with the ban will result in financial penalties. The new legislation shifts the focus from monetary penalties to ensuring compliance with integrity standards, aiming to produce concrete effects on public positions. This represents a significant change in the way the consequences of integrity incidents are applied, ensuring that bans are effectively respected.
