Two PNL county councilors and two municipal councilors from Arad have resigned to avoid incompatibilities related to Law 165/2026.

County councilors from Arad, all representatives of PNL, resigned to avoid possible situations of incompatibility after the entry into force of Law 165/2026. The Vice President of the Arad County Council, Sergiu Bîlcea, emphasized the confusion generated by the new regulations, stating that their application should only begin in 2028 to avoid affecting the current mandate. Although two PSD councilors were initially targeted for incompatibility, they decided not to resign after clarifications received from the National Integrity Agency and the Minister of Development.

At the level of the Arad City Hall, two more resignations were recorded. Mayor Călin Bibarț stated that the law will be clarified through parliamentary interventions and that it will come into force in 2028, warning that the resignations could create problems in localities where there are not enough people to fill the vacant positions. Dozens of local councilors from Arad County are still in an uncertain situation, awaiting further clarifications.
