Major League Soccer (MLS) announced on Monday that it has imposed lifetime bans on players Derrick Jones and Yaw Yeboah due to extensive gambling, including on matches in which they played for their own teams. The investigation was triggered by suspicious betting alerts, and the players were placed on administrative leave in October 2025. It was found that both players frequently bet on football during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, including on a match on October 19, 2024, in which Jones received a yellow card, which they bet on. Jones, at 28 years old, and Yeboah, also 28, had notable careers in MLS, with Jones having 131 appearances in the league, and Yeboah becoming one of the best left-backs, winning the MLS Cup with Columbus Crew in 2023.
In one case, both players bet on the fact that Jones would receive a yellow card during a match on October 19, 2024, between Columbus Crew and New York Red Bulls. The player was cautioned in the 35th minute for a foul.
