Eugen Tomac, the prime minister designated by Nicușor Dan, made an innovative proposal for Romanian football, suggesting the organization of a common cup between teams from Romania and the Republic of Moldova. In a recent discussion, Tomac emphasized the importance of sport in strengthening the relationships between the two states, mentioning that, although they are independent, the inhabitants share the same culture.

Although realizing this idea would be complicated due to the rules of European competitions, Tomac expressed his enthusiasm for such an initiative. Additionally, he avoided declaring a preferred team for the World Cup, wishing for the tournament to be won by a European national team.

"I would very much like us to have a common Cup, of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Romania and the Republic of Moldova are two independent states, but on our territories lives the same people. I believe it is very good to encourage sports activities. I would very much like us to have a common Cup," said Eugen Tomac, at Antena 3.
