Eugen Tomac wished Luca Niculescu, the prime minister-designate appointed by President Nicușor Dan, success on Tuesday and called for political responsibility to overcome the government crisis. Tomac argued that “Romania must emerge successfully from this crisis,” while citizens are waiting for accountability, not political calculations.
The former prime minister-designate stated that the vote on the future Government had become “a patriotic obligation.” Luca Niculescu has ten days to present the Cabinet list and the governing program to Parliament, as well as to negotiate the support needed to obtain the 233 votes required for investiture.
Luca Niculescu comes from journalism and diplomacy and has never been a member of a political party. He led RFI Romania, worked for several media institutions in France, and served as Romania’s ambassador to Paris between 2016 and 2022. Since 2022, he has been a secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and coordinator of Romania’s accession process to the OECD. In 2023, France awarded him the Legion of Honour in the rank of Commander.
