President Nicușor Dan designated Luca Niculescu as candidate for the position of prime minister on Monday, in a context marked by political uncertainty and economic difficulties. Niculescu accepted the responsibility and announced that his first task would be to form a parliamentary majority to support a new government.
The designated prime minister stated that he would negotiate a realistic governing program with the parliamentary parties, and that in the coming days he would present the priorities and the executive team.
„I cannot promise miracles, but what I can promise is seriousness in the use of public money, predictability for the economy, respect for Romania’s commitments, the acceleration of investments and reforms, and a state that functions as well as possible for its citizens, that is, for all Romanians", Luca Niculescu declared.
Niculescu called for respecting Romania’s European and Euro-Atlantic commitments, as well as for strengthening the state’s capacity to combat disinformation. Against the backdrop of the war at the border, he emphasized the need for a firm security policy.
The candidate cited Romania’s accession to the OECD as an example of cooperation between parties and institutions. Nicușor Dan gave him the freedom to decide whether the future government would be technocratic or political.
