The President of the Save Romania Union (USR), Dominic Fritz, stated that his party will not vote for a monocolor PSD government, but will support a social-democrat government in 2027, in the event that PSD provides support for a PNL-USR-UDMR Cabinet this year.
"We remain consistent. USR will not vote for a monocolor PSD government. I proposed to Sorin Grindeanu today to support a minority government of PNL-USR-UDMR. That is, a continuation of the current governing formula that works well and imposes a reformist direction. We can discuss the name of the prime minister.
We understand that this resolution would come at a price. The principle of reciprocity - if PSD votes for a minority PNL-USR-UDMR government, we will also vote next year for a PSD government - is our solution to unblock the political crisis. It is a reasonable and responsible proposal.
This is the starting point in negotiating a parliamentary agreement between the parties of the former coalition, in the spirit of last year's protocol. For anything else, trust is lacking.
Letting PSD govern alone now would be a huge mistake. With the solution we are transparently putting on the table, no party would hold all the power. Without this principle, PSD receives full power until the elections and can do whatever it wants, including agreements with anyone, even with AUR. USR cannot be part of that.
The three parties in this reformist bloc represent a good part of the Romanians. Our share in Parliament is greater than that of PSD. And the results of the government represent a guarantee that we can deliver for Romanians and that we have the will to clean up the state.
USR does not sabotage any government.
USR refuses one thing: to be the ladder on which PSD returns to power, after it, together with AUR, toppled the government it was part of. We cannot reward the party that triggered the ongoing political crisis that worries Romanians and has consequences on people's living standards.
Regardless of how this crisis will be resolved, I can assure you that USR will remain tireless in the fight for a fair and prosperous Romania. Thank you for being with us," wrote Dominic Fritz on Thursday on his Facebook page.
