PNL deputy Robert Sighiartău reacted on Friday after interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was questioned at the Iași DNA office, stating that witness status does not constitute an accusation and that portraying it as a public verdict is intended to discredit the reforms.
Ilie Bolojan was questioned in the case involving Vaslui businessman Fănel Bogos. According to Government spokesperson Ioana Dogioiu, the hearing concerned the circumstances of an audience granted by the prime minister to Bogos. Bolojan provided all the requested clarifications, the Government representative said.
Sighiartău argued that the Justice system must establish the truth independently and must not be used as a weapon in the political dispute. He accused certain parties of “political hostility” toward Bolojan, which he attributed to the reform measures and efforts to limit privileges and political appointments.
The Liberal said that some political and administrative actors want a docile PNL willing to preserve a system based on positions and connections. In his view, the attacks against Bolojan send a discouraging message to those who might try to reform special pensions, state-owned companies and the management of public funds. Sighiartău called for a “courageous” party and for the reforms to continue, arguing that abandoning them would be borne by Romanians and future generations.
