The leader of the AUR senators, Petrișor Peiu, told Digi24 that the party does not unconditionally support interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, but is expressing concern that some cases could be politically motivated. The reaction comes after Bolojan was summoned to the Iași DNA office on Friday as a witness in a case concerning businessman Fănel Bogoș.
Peiu said that the situation reminds him of the period when politicians were allegedly “blackmailed” through summonses to DNA and argued that Bolojan’s questioning must be analyzed in the current political context. The AUR senator brought into the same discussion the prime minister’s case, Călin Georgescu’s case, and the investigation in which Bogoș and another person are mentioned, arguing that there are “strange coincidences” and that some cases could have been pursued earlier.
In a statement issued on Thursday, AUR said it views the sequence of events with “utmost concern” and claimed that Bolojan was allegedly being pressured to abandon the idea of snap elections. The prime minister was questioned in connection with a meeting attended by Fănel Bogoș. On Monday, consultations are scheduled at Cotroceni Palace to nominate a new prime minister.
