The questioning of Ilie Bolojan, as a witness, at the Iași DNA office, in the case involving Fănel Bogos, prompted reactions from several PNL leaders. They maintain that the interim prime minister is not accused and criticize the timing chosen for the questioning, during a period when Romania is seeking a new formula of government.
Siegfried Mureșan stated that Bolojan would provide prosecutors with the same information presented publicly and stressed that he is a witness, not a defendant. In the same message, the liberal leader referred to other political controversies, including the use of private planes and the origin of certain sums of money.
“I would be more interested in finding out where the shoe boxes of other people who had responsibilities in the Romanian state are and what they are hiding. I would be more interested in finding out from what sources of income and for what purpose other politicians traveled by private planes to luxury destinations,” Mureșan added.
The PNL Iași leader, Alexandru Muraru, stated that the sequence of events raises questions. He cited information that had previously appeared in the press and the fact that the questioning is taking place during political negotiations to form the government. Muraru also called for the questioning of PSD leaders in other controversial cases.
Deputy Robert Sighiartău claimed that Bolojan had upset interests in the areas of special pensions, energy, and state-owned companies. Raluca Turcan accused prosecutors of seeking to publicly discredit the liberal leader. The questioning and investigations in the case involving Fănel Bogos are continuing.
