Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan declared Friday evening on Digi24 that he does not intend to resign his mandate if, at the end of the period during which he must present the Cabinet, he finds that he does not have enough votes to secure the Government’s investiture. He specified that this option is not being considered under any scenario.

The statement comes amid difficult parliamentary arithmetic. The proposed Executive needs 233 votes to be invested, while the parliamentary support currently available does not guarantee reaching this threshold.

Siegfried Mureșan was nominated Thursday by President Nicușor Dan to form the Government, in an attempt to unblock the political crisis. The head of state subsequently announced that he would sign the nomination decree on Saturday, with the document scheduled to be published Monday in the Official Gazette.

The prime minister-designate must finalize the Cabinet’s composition and obtain Parliament’s vote. If the negotiations fail to secure the necessary majority, Mureșan says he will not relinquish his mandate. His statement clarifies the political position adopted before the official stages for forming the new Government.
