Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan stated, a few hours before the vote on the investiture of the Government proposed by the PNL, USR and UDMR, that the decision lies in the hands of each parliamentarian and mentioned that, if he becomes prime minister, he will cooperate with all parliamentary groups, including those in opposition. He specified that he would take into account proposals deemed useful for Romania, regardless of the political party they come from.
“Today, power lies with each parliamentarian. As prime minister, I will treat every parliamentarian and every parliamentary group with respect, regardless of whether they are in government or in opposition. I will take into account the good ideas for Romania put forward by parliamentarians and I will work together with them,” the designated prime minister wrote on Facebook.
The PNL, USR and UDMR hold a combined 170 seats. After discussions with representatives of the national minorities group, unaffiliated parliamentarians and members of some smaller parties, Mureșan estimated that he could count on between 170 and 233 votes.
The hearings of the proposed ministers concluded on Tuesday. Eight candidates received favorable opinions, while another eight received unfavorable opinions. The committees’ opinions are advisory, so the final decision belongs to the joint plenary session of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
