Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Friday the signing of the SAFE agreement with the European Commission, through which Romania will benefit from a loan of 16.68 billion euros for investments in defense and infrastructure.
He highlighted five major advantages: equipping the Romanian Army with state-of-the-art technology, reduced costs for loans, funding for the completion of highways in the northeast, technology transfer, and the restoration of the defense industry. Bolojan emphasized the importance of this agreement not only for national security but also for Romania's capacity to produce more in partnership with the European industry.
The SAFE agreement will allow Romania to access funds for infrastructure and defense projects, with a grace period of 10 years and a maturity of 45 years. The Ministry of Finance will manage the funds, and the implementation of the projects will be carried out by various government institutions.
