The Romanian government announced today that the first tranche of 2.5 billion euros from the SAFE Program has been transferred to the country's accounts, an amount that represents 15% of the total allocation of 16.68 billion euros.
These funds are intended to enhance defense capabilities and strategic infrastructure, according to the "Action for the Security of Europe" instrument.
The pre-financing will be used to initiate the construction of production capacities in Romania and to secure orders for local suppliers.
The payment was made after completing the necessary procedural steps, and other tranches will be granted as Romania fulfills its commitments.
Of the total allocated, approximately 4.2 billion euros will be allocated to road transport infrastructure, with the remainder for defense and security projects.
Each tranche will have a maturity of 45 years and a grace period of 10 years.
SAFE has a total budget of 150 billion euros for loans intended for member states for urgent investments in defense.
