Romania’s President Nicusor Dan will attend on Friday the inaugural Summit of the Carpathian Integration Initiative, organized in Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankivsk region at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The meeting aims to strengthen regional cooperation among the countries crossed by the Carpathian Mountains.

Representatives from Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary and Ukraine, as well as other actors involved in regional cooperation, will attend the summit. Romania’s president, together with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the other heads of state and government, will open the proceedings of the Carpathian Economic Forum.

Alongside the meeting, the Youth Forum, meetings of local authorities and discussions dedicated to cultural cooperation and nature conservation are scheduled.

The Presidential Administration says the main objectives are to harness the region’s economic potential, attract investment, protect its cultural and natural heritage, and increase cohesion among the Carpathian states. Nicusor Dan will emphasize that Romania has the longest segment of the Carpathian arc and will advocate concrete regional projects, economic exchanges, investment and effective cooperation in support of communities and their shared European future.
