Nicușor Dan met with Romanians in Transcarpathia to discuss the community’s rights and its ties with Romania

President Nicușor Dan met on Friday, September 18, in Polianîția, with representatives of the Romanian community in Ukraine’s Transcarpathia region. The discussions focused on the problems and priorities of Romanians in Ukraine, community projects, and maintaining close ties with Romania.

The head of state said that defending the rights and interests of Romanians abroad is a priority. Nicușor Dan said he regularly discusses the rights of the Romanian community with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and that Romania is firmly expressing its expectations in diplomatic dialogue.

According to the president, some solutions to the community’s problems depend on funding and legislative changes. The meeting took place on the same day that Nicușor Dan attended, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the first summit of the Carpathian Integration Initiative.

The meeting brought together the eight states of the “Carpathian 8” format: Ukraine, Romania, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, and Hungary. Participants discussed security, energy, infrastructure, transport, trade, economic cooperation, and civil protection.

At the end, the participating states adopted a joint declaration on regional security and stability, democratic resilience, respect for human rights, and the long-term development of the Carpathian region.
