Nicușor Dan signs the decree appointing the prime minister on Saturday / What he says about Mureșan’s chances of getting his government through Parliament

President Nicușor Dan announced on Friday, from Ukraine, that on Saturday he would sign the decree appointing Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister and that it “will be published in the Official Gazette on Monday.”

“I want him to succeed. It is difficult, but I want him to succeed,” the president said, in the context in which obtaining the majority of 233 votes needed for Siegfried Mureșan’s government to pass the investiture vote appears to be an almost impossible task, while PSD and AUR have announced that they will not support the executive led by the liberal.

Nicușor Dan announced on Thursday evening that he was proposing PNL MEP Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister, arguing that he had been proposed by several political parties in Parliament and had the necessary expertise for the role, although he still had no certainty that Mureșan would accept the offer from the leader at Cotroceni.

Mureșan’s response came a few minutes after the announcement, after, according to sources, the liberal had asked Ilie Bolojan for approval, in the context in which Dan had once again left the PNL leader out of the equation and had not informed him beforehand.

In the Chamber of Deputies, PNL has 54 members, USR 40, and UDMR 21. In the Senate, PNL has 26 members, USR 18, and UDMR 10. The three parties that proposed Mureșan therefore total 169 lawmakers: 80 from PNL, 58 from USR, and 31 from UDMR.

We recall that PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu reacted with “surprise and disappointment.” Moreover, the Social Democratic leader said that the Mureșan government “will fall gloriously.” Claudiu Manda argued that the future government must be built around PSD. The message indicates that the party wants to be the central negotiator, not merely a supplier of votes.
