Nicușor Dan, on the nomination of Siegfried Mureșan: “I answered affirmatively to a proposal. When you answer affirmatively, it cannot be revenge”

President Nicușor Dan rejected, on Tuesday, in New York, the accusations that the appointment of Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister had been a form of political revenge. The head of state explained that he accepted the proposal put forward by the coalition leaders after a meeting with the presidents of the PNL and USR and with UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor.

Nicușor Dan stated that he wants the designated prime minister to win over a parliamentary majority, form a government that passes the legislature’s vote, and maintain Romania’s pro-Western direction. He also emphasized the need to honor the commitments undertaken, including the fiscal trajectory.

The president also rejected criticism from some liberals, saying that an affirmative response to the coalition’s proposal cannot be interpreted as revenge. Siegfried Mureșan has ten days to appear before Parliament with the government program and the cabinet list.

"Well, wait a second. I responded affirmatively to a proposal. When you respond affirmatively, it cannot be revenge," said Nicușor Dan.
