Siegfried Mureșan denies that he asked Nicușor Dan for time to think after being designated prime minister and claims that it was “a small misunderstanding”

Siegfried Mureșan said Monday morning on DigiFM that he did not ask President Nicușor Dan for time to think before accepting the designation for the position of prime minister. He claimed that everything was a misunderstanding regarding the conversation he had with the head of state.

Mureșan recounted that the president called him approximately half an hour before the official announcement and told him that he would designate him. The member of the European Parliament thanked him and said that he wanted to discuss the organization of the process and the next steps, considering that forming the Government is an important responsibility.

“I did not say that I needed time to think. I said thank you and I said, let’s see how we organize this process,” the prime minister-designate stated. He emphasized that he had been prepared to assume the position and that he had known from the outset what his decision was.

Mureșan said that the president had not informed the leaders of the PNL, USR, and UDMR beforehand, the parties that supported him. He said that he personally informed the PNL leader, Ilie Bolojan, after receiving confirmation of the designation.

The prime minister-designate also stated that he publicly accepted the nomination shortly after the announcement from Cotroceni Palace, because for him there had never been any dilemma about accepting the position.
