Nicușor Dan is said to have proposed Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister without informing the coalition leaders beforehand (sources)

President of Romania Nicușor Dan reportedly did not inform Ilie Bolojan and the other leaders of the PNL-USR-UDMR coalition in advance that he intended to nominate MEP Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister, according to political sources cited by G4Media.

According to the sources, the head of state reportedly called Mureșan directly to inform him of his intention to designate him to form the new government. Subsequently, the MEP reportedly contacted Ilie Bolojan and the USR and UDMR leaders to inform them about the discussion with the president. This sequence would explain what Nicușor Dan described as hesitation on Siegfried Mureșan’s part.

The Social Democrats immediately seized on the moment and accused the MEP of no longer wanting to take on the task of forming a government. According to the same sources, Mureșan wanted to inform the coalition leaders first in order to avoid a repeat of the “Veștea episode,” which reportedly disconcerted the liberals.

Shortly after the president’s public announcement, Siegfried Mureșan stated that he accepted the proposal to form the new Executive.
