USR has once again proposed Siegfried Mureșan to Nicușor Dan as prime minister, while not ruling out early elections either: It is important to have a designation

USR leader Dominic Fritz proposed on Thursday, during consultations with the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, once again the MEP Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister; at the same time, the party would also be willing to discuss another person nominated by the leader at Cotroceni. USR also did not rule out early elections if there is no majority to approve a new government in Parliament.

“I came with the people’s frustrations, with the concerns of Romanian citizens that the deadlock into which PSD and AUR have thrown us is not coming to an end. It is a deadlock felt by the entire society. USR wants to be part of the solutions. We put our position on the table. We made a proposal together with PNL and UDMR in the name of Siegfried Mureșan, which we are maintaining. If the president does not want to nominate our proposal or that of the PSD, we are open to discussing another option as well,” Dominic Fritz said after consultations with Nicușor Dan at Cotroceni Palace to nominate a new prime minister.

The USR leader emphasized that the government that comes next will have to be a “coherent one, capable of carrying out the necessary reforms.”

“We stand by our proposal to have two successive minority governments. Let us start with a minority PNL, USR, UDMR government.

Another scenario put forward by USR is a prime minister nominated by the president.

“Parliament’s ability to vote for a government is tested through a vote; we believe it is important to have this test after almost five months. It is important to have a nomination and see whether a majority can be formed and tested in Parliament.”

Nevertheless, if the investiture fails in Parliament, Fritz says, “then we must give power back to the citizens, and early elections must not be a theoretical option, but a real solution.”
