PNL Vice President Ionel Bogdan on Friday relaunched the proposal that PSD should support a formula of rotation in government until the 2028 parliamentary elections, amid the current political crisis. The liberal leader believes that voting in favor of a government led by Siegfried Vasile Mureșan is the solution for unblocking the situation and ensuring a fully empowered executive.
“There is also a political solution for the coming period, which I proposed to PSD as early as the summer: 𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟴 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. It is the only option that can ensure the stability Romania needs,” Ionel Bogdan wrote in a Facebook post.
The appeal comes after President Nicușor Dan designated Siegfried Mureșan as candidate for the office of prime minister on Thursday evening. According to Ionel Bogdan, PNL will take steps to obtain the votes necessary to invest the Mureșan Cabinet and is asking PSD to support this option.
The proposal for an executive led by Mureșan was put forward by PNL, USR, and UDMR as early as June 26. The liberals argue that rotation in government until 2028 is the only solution that can offer stability to Romania.
Ionel Bogdan warned that, if PSD rejects the formula and the Mureșan Government does not receive the Parliament’s vote of confidence, the conditions could be met for triggering snap elections. In this case, the Social Democrats are called upon to present a clear alternative solution for ending the political crisis.
