Eugen Tomac, MEP and advisor to the president, discussed on Digi24 about the images captured in Brussels, where he appears alongside Nicușor Dan and the head of SPP, Lucian Pahonțu.

Tomac emphasized that it was an informal social gathering, not an official meeting, taking place between two scheduled meetings. He mentioned that the relationship between Nicușor Dan and Pahonțu is strictly institutional. President Nicușor Dan confirmed that the meeting took place after a discussion with Manfred Weber and explained that Pahonțu accompanied him according to the law on the protection of dignitaries.

In the context of the political crisis, the president of PNL, Ilie Bolojan, added that the gathering is a personal choice, emphasizing that leaders have official meetings but can choose with whom to dine. The images sparked controversy, but officials insisted that there are no frequent political consultations between Nicușor and Pahonțu.
