The mayor of the municipality of Buzău, Constantin Toma, met on Friday with Ilie Bolojan and Ciprian Ciucu, a meeting that the mayor made public on Facebook. Toma described the meeting as an “exchange of experience between a former mayor and two current mayors,” dedicated to administration and local communities.
The meeting took place amid tensions between Constantin Toma and the PSD leadership. The Buzău mayor has repeatedly criticized the party’s central leadership, especially Sorin Grindeanu, accusing it of political decisions that destabilized the government and of a lack of firmness.
On June 2, 2026, Toma resigned from the positions of president of the PSD Buzău Municipal Organization and first vice president of the county organization. The decision came after PSD local councilors voted against several projects proposed by the mayor, including a project to rehabilitate Cuza Vodă Street and several central areas of the city.
Constantin Toma said that he remains a PSD member, since he was elected mayor on the party’s list, but that he no longer identifies with the current leadership in Bucharest. He maintains that he continues to enjoy the support of the people of Buzău and that he will focus on the municipality’s development projects.
