Constantin Toma criticizes Nicușor Dan for handling the political crisis: “This man disappoints me”

Constantin Toma, mayor of the municipality of Buzău, criticized President Nicușor Dan for the way he handled the political crisis and said in a statement to local broadcaster TV Sat that the head of state should have appointed a prime minister more quickly. The mayor believes Romania cannot afford months of uncertainty amid the war in Ukraine, the budget deficit and rising prices.

Toma said that, if Parliament had not granted a vote of confidence, the solution would have been to hold snap elections. He said he voted for and supported Nicușor Dan, but was disappointed that the president did not make a decision sooner.

Regarding Ilie Bolojan, the mayor of Buzău said that he “has lost some of his momentum,” and that a period in opposition could benefit him. Toma stressed, however, that reforms aimed at reducing budget spending must continue, regardless of who leads the Government.

The statements were made after Nicușor Dan nominated Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister. The candidate has ten days to seek a vote of confidence from Parliament, requiring 233 votes. Over the weekend, Constantin Toma attended the “Carpathian 8” summit in Ukraine alongside the president.
