Ludovic Orban criticizes President Nicușor Dan for failing to nominate a new candidate for the position of prime minister, accusing him of being primarily responsible for prolonging the political crisis. The statements were made on B1 TV, as Romania is being led by an interim government that has been in office for 130 days.

The former liberal prime minister and former presidential adviser maintains that appointing the prime minister is an exclusive power of the president and a constitutional obligation. In his view, the parties and lawmakers cannot vote to invest a government as long as the head of state does not put forward a nomination.

After a motion of no confidence supported by the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) and other sovereigntist parties passed, Nicușor Dan made two proposals. Eugen Tomac withdrew before the vote, while Adrian Veștea was rejected by Parliament. Nearly three months have passed since then without a new nomination.

Orban described the previous nominations as major mistakes and accused the president of being disconnected from the realities of society. According to the former prime minister, responsibility would fall on the parties only if the president nominated a candidate who failed to secure an investiture vote.
