The Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, stated at the Salzburg Forum that Europe needs to strengthen its response to organized crime, which operates like a "global industry." He emphasized that criminal networks collaborate internationally, using technology to become more sophisticated and difficult to combat. Predoiu stated that Romania is coming up with pragmatic solutions to improve the security of citizens, proposing the strengthening of national police forces and European agencies such as Europol. He also highlighted the importance of better-funded and prepared institutions for new threats, as well as the need for more effective cooperation among member states. The Salzburg Forum is considered an essential platform for Romania in the context of border security and combating illegal migration, drug trafficking, arms trafficking, and human trafficking.
