A team of researchers has developed nanorobots approximately 50 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair, capable of operating in the microbial world.

These robots, powered by light, use the recoil of photons for propulsion, facilitating precise manipulation of bacteria and cells. The new control method involves antenna wires at the nanoscale, which align with the direction of light, allowing the robots to make sharp turns and efficiently scan surfaces. In laboratory conditions, they can "clean" microscopic environments, gathering bacteria from one area and releasing them in selected locations.

The ability to transport larger groups of bacteria suggests promising applications in microbiology and biomedical research, opening new horizons for manipulating materials at the microscopic scale.
