Eurostat: Romanians check online information the least / Only 18.2% look for sources to confirm the veracity of the content

Only 18.2% of Romanian internet users have tried to verify the accuracy of information found online using other sources, according to Eurostat data. Romania therefore ranks last in the European Union, below the EU average of 29.2%.

The data cover people aged 16 to 74 who used the internet in the three months preceding the survey. At European level, the highest shares of users who verify online information were recorded in Ireland, at 63.6%, the Netherlands, at 53.1%, and Luxembourg, at 45.2%. The lowest percentages were reported in Greece, at 9.8%, Lithuania, at 14.9%, and Romania.

Another Eurostat statistic shows that, in 2024, internet use in the EU was dominated by cultural activities. Watching TV programmes or videos online was reported by 79% of users, reading news online by 70%, listening to or downloading music by 65%, and playing games by 34%.

Romania also has the lowest shares in the EU for watching videos online, at 44%, and reading news online, at 50%. In terms of digital skills, only 31.84% of the country's population has basic or above-basic skills, compared with the European average of 60.4%.‌assistant to=event_translation ㊿jsonobiles 代>
