Romanians spend an average of 4 hours and 19 minutes a day on the internet, according to a study commissioned by ANCOM and conducted between August 4 and September 1, 2026. The duration rises to 5 hours and 30 minutes among adolescents and young people aged 14 to 24.
Communication is the main reason for using the internet, cited by 96% of respondents, followed by entertainment and social media, each at 92%. Social media is used daily by 96% of participants, for an average of more than 100 minutes, while adolescents aged 14 to 17 spend nearly three hours a day on these platforms.
The study also highlights the scale of online risks: 65% of respondents encountered fraud or misleading content in the past 12 months. Disinformation was identified by 51%, deepfakes by 38%, and phishing attempts by 31%.
TikTok is perceived as the platform posing the greatest risks, followed by Roblox and Snapchat. Although 70% consider parental control features useful, only 34% of parents actually use them. The research included 1,450 respondents and was conducted through online interviews.
