BUKFESZT5 brings Hungarian theatre performances from ten cities across the country to Bucharest, between September 28 and October 6

The fifth edition of the BUKFESZT festival takes place between 28 September and 6 October in Bucharest, bringing Hungarian-language theater performances from ten important theater centers across Romania. The performances will take place at the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theater, Odeon Theater, and Bulandra Theater, with all performances subtitled in Romanian. The program includes productions by theaters from Cluj, Târgu Mureș, Sfântu Gheorghe, Oradea, Miercurea Ciuc, Satu Mare, Timișoara, Târgu Secuiesc, Odorheiu Secuiesc, and Gheorgheni. Bucharest audiences will be able to see productions inspired by the works of Ionesco, Chekhov, Shakespeare, Jon Fosse, Molnár Ferenc, and Molière, alongside creations by contemporary playwrights.

The festival begins on 28 September at the Odeon Theater, with “I Wanted to Revolt with You” and “Liliom.” In the following days, “The Bald Soprano,” “Lucifer,” “The Cherry Orchard,” “The Lives of Others,” “Terror,” “The Community - Eco-Romance,” “Dirty Dancing,” “Macbeth,” “donjuan,” “The Future President of Romania,” and “I Am the Wind” are scheduled. BUKFESZT was launched in 2022 and has expanded from one edition to the next, bringing together classical and contemporary performances and attracting a steady audience. This year’s edition is organized by the MASZIN Association, in partnership with the host institutions and with the support of UNITER, UDMR, the Department for Interethnic Relations, the Embassy of Hungary, and the Liszt Institute.
