Experts from NCC Group have shown how real-time voice cloning technology, based on artificial intelligence, can be used to carry out highly convincing voice phishing (vishing) attacks. They conducted tests that allowed the acquisition of confidential data by mimicking a person's voice in real time, using an automated training model based on the target's voice.
This technology makes attacks more credible, as it allows attackers to respond and manage questions in real time. Experts warn that attacks based on voice cloning will become increasingly common, and most vishing calls will involve AI-generated voices by 2026. Although voice attacks are still rare, text-based scams are on the rise.
