Discovered in January 2025 at the Mount Lemmon Observatory in Arizona, Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) is approaching Earth and can be observed this week. It will pass by Earth for the first time since the 8th century, with the last close approach estimated to have been around the year 700 AD. The comet will reach its closest distance to Earth on October 31, 2025, at approximately 90 million kilometers.
Astronomers recommend observing the comet after sunset, between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, in the west-southwest direction, from locations with clear skies and minimal light pollution. The comet will appear as a diffuse object with a faint tail, coinciding with the Orionid meteor shower, adding an extra spectacle to the phenomenon. This rare opportunity to observe the comet with binoculars makes for a memorable experience for astronomy enthusiasts.
