Alongside the solar eclipse, the night sky of August 13, 2026, will be animated by the Perseid meteor shower, known for its beauty.

This phenomenon, observed for over two millennia, originates in the constellation Perseus and is generated by particles left by a comet, which enter the Earth's atmosphere at high speeds, creating bright trails. The peak of activity will be on the night of August 12 to 13, with an estimate of up to 100 meteors per hour under ideal conditions, and the New Moon on August 12 will facilitate observations.

"The peak of the shower will occur on August 13, at 6 a.m., that is, during the day. Because the peak occurs during the day and meteors cannot be seen in daylight, you will need to look at the sky on the night before the peak, August 12/13, and on the night after, August 13/14. The ascending and descending phases of the peak can be observed between August 11-14," according to the "Admiral Vasile Urseanu" Astronomical Observatory.

Meteors can be best observed in dark areas, away from city lights, and astronomers recommend observing for at least an hour to increase the chances of seeing more meteors. A lounge chair is enough to enjoy this natural spectacle.
