The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that the United States has proposed security guarantees for a period of 15 years, with the possibility of extension. During the meeting with Donald Trump, Zelensky requested that these guarantees be extended to 30, 40, or even 50 years. Although the security guarantees are agreed upon, the details regarding U.S. involvement remain unclear, with Trump being reluctant to commit American forces to the region. Zelensky mentioned that the presence of foreign troops could provide a real guarantee, but Russia might object to such proposals.
He also emphasized that a meeting with Russia will only be possible after the U.S. and European leaders reach an agreement on the peace framework proposed by Ukraine. Zelensky announced plans for a new meeting in January with European leaders and stressed that the lifting of martial law in Ukraine will only occur after obtaining the necessary security guarantees.
