The nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, the largest in Europe and occupied by Russian forces, has been powered again after a 30-day outage. Although the plant is not currently producing energy, the electricity supply is essential for cooling the six reactors. During power outages, backup diesel generators are activated.

The region is the scene of fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is constantly monitoring the situation. The IAEA stated that the resumption of power supply is an important step for nuclear safety. The Russian management of the plant thanked the IAEA for its contribution to a local ceasefire, which allowed for the necessary repairs to be carried out.
