YouTube has announced that, starting August 24, it will change the way views are counted on the platform.
With this update, a view will be recorded as soon as a user starts playing a video or enters a live stream. Until now, a view was considered recorded only after the user had watched at least 30 seconds of the video.
The company explained that, following feedback from creators, it decided to eliminate the confusion related to measuring views. Additionally, YouTube will maintain an indicator called 'Engaged views' in the Analytics tools, which will show how many viewers chose to continue watching the videos. The change will not affect creators' earnings or eligibility for monetization.
Furthermore, YouTube announced new thresholds for monetization, increasing the requirements for creators who want to earn money from ads and subscriptions, which has generated criticism from some users who believe that these measures will make access to the monetization program more difficult.
