The World Bank has worsened its growth forecast for Bulgaria's economy for 2025 and 2026, citing the global GDP slowdown. It now forecasts growth of 1.6% in 2023 and 2.1% in 2024, compared with previous estimates of 2.8% and 2.7%. Other institutions, such as the IMF and the Bulgarian National Bank, have more optimistic forecasts, anticipating growth of 2.5% and 2.8%. The World Bank points to structural problems in the Bulgarian economy, including low investment and weak labor productivity. It also expects an overall slowdown, averaging 2.3% between 2025-2026.
