The two officials intended to travel to the Ukrainian capital by plane, but Kyiv's airspace is closed. Witkoff reportedly does not feel comfortable using the train either, and logistical obstacles could lead to the visit being postponed or canceled.

The plans were confirmed by a person close to the Trump administration. According to another source, Russia has not committed to refraining from attacking Kyiv during the visit, although the White House reportedly requested this. The Kremlin only confirmed that Washington had asked Ukraine not to strike Moscow while the American envoys were in the region. The visit would be Witkoff and Kushner's first trip to Ukraine. The two have previously met repeatedly with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he expects them in Kyiv and that their presence would demonstrate the active involvement of the United States.
