Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrive in Kyiv for talks with Volodymyr Zelensky

U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, arrived in Kyiv on Sunday, where they are due to discuss with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky efforts to identify a diplomatic solution to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The two arrived by train at Kyiv’s central railway station from Poland. They were met by representatives of the Ukrainian negotiating team, including Zelensky’s chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanov, Rustem Umerov, David Arakhamia, and Sergiy Kyslytsya.

This is the American envoys’ first visit to Ukraine since mediation efforts began.

A day earlier, Witkoff and Kushner met in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, to whom they presented a peace proposal.

Before meeting with the American delegation, Zelensky consulted with his team. “We are ready for dialogue,” he said, stressing that Ukraine wants the war to end, but also seeks security guarantees and a dignified peace.

Peace talks have been deadlocked for more than six months amid the lack of common ground between Russia and Ukraine.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously warned that Washington does not want an endless series of meetings without results, but said it is prepared to resume mediation if prospects emerge for constructive dialogue.
